The Ever-Changing Basketball Landscape

I have to admit, up until March Madness started my basketball viewing this season had been minimal. Last year I watched at least a game a day, but my hectic work schedule has limited me to only catching the occasional weekend contest. Despite my avid viewership last year, I felt somewhat lost when I watched the tournament this season.

Thanks to the “one and done” mentality that is prevalent amongst the top players of the upper echelon teams, the best talent seems to change on a yearly basis. Of course I recognized the NCAA jerseys of the few anomalies, such as Scheyer at Duke or Harangody at Notre Dame (is it just me, or does it seem like that guy is in his tenth season?). Although some players are undoubtedly ready for the NBA at an early age, I think that the college climate would be improved if players were required to stay longer.

The Sports Purity Test

personalized college jerseysFor as long as spectators have been enjoying sports, there has been an ongoing debate as to which stratum reigns supreme: collegiate athletics or the pros. Proponents of collegiate athletics will assert that the games at the college level are more pure; athletes don’t “play for the money” and there isn’t the rampant gambling that is experienced at the pro level—for the most part. In today’s day-in-age, however, many of these claims don’t hold water.

Many college athletes simply treat the NCAA as the “minor leagues,” biding their time until they are eligible for the pros. Even when athletes stay for their full tenure, it is often only long enough for the most devout fans to learn their name. This is why you so often see collegiate fans donning personalized college jerseys instead of the name and number of the favorite player.

Saturdays at the Sports Bar

sports barI graduated from a Big Ten university several years ago and promptly moved across the country to the West Coast. It’s been virtually impossible to watch my alma mater’s football team on a regular basis without paying exorbitant fees for a cable package. Luckily I found a bar downtown that’s owned by a fellow graduate from my old school. The whole place is decorated in college football jerseys, and he’s just as crazy about the game as I am.

It’s been a down year for the Michigan State Spartans; they lost an embarrassing early game to lowly Central Michigan and then fell short in the annual rivalry matchup against Notre Dame. Despite the team’s brutal mediocrity, it’s comforting to have found a kindred spirit out West who has shared many of my college experiences. Besides, there’s always next year.

NCAA Fans Shop Here

Arkansas Razorbacks LogoYou have one of the biggest selections of NCAA apparel I’ve seen anywhere.  It’s pretty rare to find selection, prices and great service all in one place but here you are!  Your shop’s been a real God-sent for me since I’ve found it.  I’ve saved a ton of money and even more time getting everything I need in sportswear in one place.  And since I order my stuff all at once I even save on shipping.

Normally when you buy online you might pay less for your merchandise but the shipping often more than makes up for the savings, leaving you paying more for the convenience and luxury of ordering online.  That isn’t so with OnTheField.com.  I ordered all of my stuff at once (because the prices make it affordable) and get all of my stuff shipped in one convenient box.  I save a TON on shipping and still get to enjoy the convenience of shopping from home.
