A Change of Venue but Still the Same Old Manny Ramirez
Manny Ramirez Will Start His Chicago White Sox Career the Same Way He Ended in Los Angeles.
Manny Ramirez officially joined the White Sox in Cleveland Tuesday afternoon, but he apparently didn’t feel up to starting the game at DH after the long flight from Los Angeles.
So Ramirez will begin his White Sox career as he ended his stint with the Dodgers, on the bench. Though hopefully his first at-bat for Chicago will be more useful than his . He is, however, slated to be in the starting lineup Wednesday night at Progressive Field, where he had so much success as a youngster coming up with the Indians.
Ramirez arrived at the ballpark around 3:15 p.m. and met with the media a short time later — speaking only in Spanish, with coach Joey Cora acting as his interpreter. He was greeted warmly by Chicago manager Ozzie Guillen, who said Ramirez will DH and hit fifth when he is playing.
Guillen said it was his decision to keep Ramirez on the bench Tuesday, telling reporters he asked Ramirez how he was feeling and “I didn’t like the answer he gave me.”
Possible Suiters for Manny Ramirez
The are yet to place Manny Ramirez on waivers, but the prevailing thought throughout baseball is that it’s only a matter of time before the team does just that. The Dodgers trail San Diego by 12 games in the NL West — with San Francisco and Colorado between them — and the ongoing divorce between the team’s owners has them in a money-shedding mood.
So it makes sense for the Dodgers to see if they can get anything for Manny, and it seems they already know there will be at least one suitor interested in his services. Numerous tweets say that Kenny Williams and the White Sox are itching to place a claim on Ramirez.
Both Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports and Joe Cowley of the say that Williams plans on placing a waiver claim on Ramirez if he gets the chance, with Cowley saying a major league source told him that Williams “is pushing all his chips on getting Manny Ramirez.” Read More >>
Ozzie Guillen Making Sense With Boisterous Comments
With just a few big league seasons under his belt as Texas Rangers’ outfielder in the late ’80s, Ruben Sierra was an MLB All-Star, an emerging superstar, a soon-to-be millionaire, and unhappy. He felt alone in North Texas as a young man from Puerto Rico. He didn’t speak much English, and few around him spoke his native Spanish.
“If you had asked Ruben earlier in his career whether he wanted to stay with the Rangers,” Sierra’s agent then, Chuck Berry, later told Texas Monthly, “he may have said ‘no.’ ”
That changed when the Rangers hired a longtime and well-known baseball journalist from Puerto Rico named Luis Mayoral, who had been a confidant of Roberto Clemente, as a liaison for its growing Latin American contingent. Read More >>
Guillen and the Chicago White Sox in for the Race
“We’re not going to look down, we’re not going to look up. In a pennant race, every day is going to be tougher and tougher,” Guillen says of how White Sox three-day layoff will affect them.
Konerko said, “It’s not how you draw it up. It’s not realistic that you’re going to win at that clip for the next 80 games. … I think the attitude was that no one panicked. Everybody thought we would have a streak. I just think most people knew that if we didn’t do it in certain amount of time, it might not be allowed to happen because of the business of the game. In August or September this might be a different looking team, so there was kind of a little bit more of an urgency to do it.”
After a slow start hitter Juan Pierre was able to get his average to .257 and he also played a solid left field. Pierre was surprised about the longevity of the streak. He was a veteran of several teams, one of which included the MLB World Series champion Marlins back in 2003 when their third base coach was Guillen. Read More >>

Mark Buehrle Obtaines Perfection
Against the Rays Mark Buehrle obtained perfection, the second no-hitter of his baseball career, now bringing him recognition with just 18 other perfect games in MLB history. As well as on of only 5 pitchers to throw two no hitters, one of them being a perfect game.
Center fielder Dewayne Wise came through with a center field grab off the all that looked to be a Gabe Kapler home run, which solidified the first perfect major league game in five years.
“I was hoping it was staying in there, give him enough room to catch it,” Buehrle said. “I know the guys were doing everything they could to save the no-hitter, the perfect game, whatever it might be.”
“I was just hoping it didn’t have enough distance to get out of here.”
Royals Young Sensation Creates Wave
Zack Greinke is the Royals young sensation, creating a wave of excitement, the 25 year old right hander delivered a gem with the best starts ever to a season. He is yet to allow a single run in tow starts. His six-hit, no-walk, 10-strikeout complete game blanking of the White Sox on Monday raised his record to 6-0, with a near perfect 0.40 ERA. Only two other pitchers in Major League history have done as well — Walter “Big Train” Johnson in 1913 and Fernando Valenzuela in 1981.
Kansas City can you call him the best in baseball?
He was a pretty polished 13-10 with a gleaming 3.47 ERA last year. Blinding new record 6-0, 0.40 ERA, 54 strikeouts — all bests in the MLB. Greinke had a 3-0 victory over Chicago, and White Sox manager praised his performance stating: It doesn’t surprise me what he’s doing right now at all,” Guillen said, “because he’s that good. He’s been good for a long time. Now he believes in himself.
“To me, he’s the best in the league right now.”
Walking no one, with his sixth victory he struck out 10 batters and only threw 104 pitches. The Kansas City Royals are in first place in the American League Central, one and a half games over the Tigers. The Royals have a 15-11 record and the fans are feeling good with impressive crowds and excited about Zack!
Detroit Tigers Galarraga Out Pitches the Sox
Armando Galarraga spotted his pitches low and on the corner for the previous 6 1/3 innings making the bigger addition to the Wednesday 9-0 Tigers win. He may be Detroit’s future closer but some of his wild pitches nearly hit many players heating up the shouting on the field.
Ryan Perry, the wild pitcher, nearly hit Alexi Ramirez twice and Brent Lillbridge another time. Josh Fields, Chicago’s third baseman, shouted to Perry about throwing the ball at him at 97 mph. “I’ve never tried to hit anyone in the head,” Perry said. Perry held in and struck out Fields for the final out.
It was a win for the Detroit Tigers, taking the early lead in American League Central Standings. Galarraga has good control and shut down Chicago’s big bats. Considering this was the only time he faced the White Sox before this game was briefly at this final game of last season. He threw a few wold pitches to bring in the tying run and walked Jermaine Dye, he was out of sorts.
Galarraga had the eight-strikeout performance in the home opener las Friday, with three of his five strikouts coming in critical situations. Galarraga set down Carlos Quentine and changed speeds on Jim Thome with a moving changeup and a cutter to freeze him.
Executing a heavy dose of sliders and cutters Garlarraga controlled the game very well.
