Lakers-Celtics Final Hits Speed Bump
Diehard NBA fans who still have their Magic Johnson replica NBA jerseys hanging in the closet are giddy with the prospect of a Lakers-Celtics finals. And while this seemed like all but a certainty a few days ago, the Suns and Magic are beginning to show signs of life. Each team has rattled off two wins after being pushed up against the ropes early in the series.
Despite the resurgence from these underdogs, the safe money is still on the Lakers and Celtics to be there when the dust settles. If this is the case, it will be interesting to see if Kobe is able to propel the Lakers to back-to-back titles once again. His supporting cast is performing better than ever, and with the addition of Ron Artest, it will be difficult for any team—even the Celtics—to win a seven-game series.
Glory Days of the NBA
If you follow the NBA with any regularity, you’ve probably noticed that the league has undergone some massive changes over the past few decades. Whereas the NBA was chock full of intense rivalries in the 1970s, 80s and 90s, most of the attention has shifted to individuals. It’s not Magic and the Lakers versus Bird and the Celtics; it’s just Kobe versus LeBron.
Some fans have criticized today’s players for their lack of fundamentals, rampant marijuana use and lack of integrity. It’s almost enough to make a basketball connoisseur miss the old days, when players demonstrated a love for the game. Throwback NBA jerseys help to remind us of another, simpler era when money mattered but winning was that much more important.
Allen Iverson Pretends He’s the Stock Market
Along with his stint with the Detroit Pistons Allen Iverson proved to us that he’s a lot more than just a great ball player. Apparently he’s also a primadonna and a self-interested jerk. It looks like Iverson has forgotten that most major league sports these days are TEAM-based, not “I’m the greatest”-based. Though it may sound like quite the character indictment, you’d think with a cool $20 million contract the guy could at least pretend to be coachable. I mean, at least for a while?
Now one of the NBA’s highest paid, least-wanted free agents, Iverson faces a difficult uphill battle not only against finding a team willing to take him but against a personal character that’s unwilling to concede. We know Iverson can play ball, but the NBA isn’t doing many one-on-ones these days. Iverson needs a hell of a wake-up call to get back in the game and regain the respect he’s lost. Unfortunately he has more than just the NBA to convince. His fan base has nearly evaporated completely, leaving him in the unique position of being a great player that no one wants anything to do with.
Well, Mr. Iverson, it’s time to dig deep and do some serious soul searching. You can’t play like you’re the only player on the court. It will probably be the hardest work he’ll ever have to do. And if he accomplishes this difficult goal it may be the greatest victory he’s ever experienced. Get ‘er done.
Former Colt Marvin Harrison may be fighting for his Freedom
Marvin Harrison has had a reportedly number of teams show interest as a prospect player after having been released by the Colts, including the Tennessee Titans. Currently a free agent, Harrison would be hard pressed to turn down an offer to play this NFL season given the right circumstances – his main concerns remaining playing time and compensation.
However given his past and more recent troubles which involve allegations that Harrison has yet again been involved in the shooting of a man named Dwight Dixon.
Apparently Dixon was found shot multiple times and left to bleed out in the Fairmount area of Philadelphia. Dixon had already attempted to sue Harrison for a previous altercation in with Harrison had allegedly shot Dixon and lost.
Everbody Loves Basketball
Whenever I hear the NBA slogan; “I love this Game”, I can’t help but marvel at the sport’s popularity. Almost every place I go, there are basketball courts nearby. Boys of all ages play enthusiastically, trying to imitate their NBA idols. It’s not hard to see that the majority of people love this game, making basketball part of the American culture.
This basketball fever is the very thing that popularizes a lot of basketball players. Almost everyone you ask recognizes the number 23 jersey of the legendary player Michael Jordan. Some like Shaquille O’Neal even extended their fame beyond the court and involve themselves in other field, like starring a movie or a commercial. The sport fever also fueled the rise in the number of sports memorabilia such as game cards and authentic NBA jerseys being sold in different places for the millions of die-hard fans of the National Basketball Association teams and players.

A Jersey Story
The best gift I ever received was a Michael Jordan personalized NBA jersey. I have always loved basketball. But, as an awkward, gangly kid of 10, I wasn’t pinning my hopes on making a career out of it. It was on my 11th birthday that my Dad took me to a Bulls game in our hometown of Chicago.

Michael Jordan blew my mind! I couldn’t believe how high he could jump. Later that day my parents gave me a gift. It was a Bulls jersey with Michael Jordan’s name and number on it. Though, I didn’t end up playing professional basketball, that jersey will always remind me of that day with my Dad, and Jordan’s seamless performance.
Michael Jordon

Micheal Jordan is to Generation X what Joe Dimaggio was to baby boomers. He presented a changing era, and exuded confidence in what we all assumed to be the best things in life. His play on the court reflects who he was off the court and what he did on the court was nothing short of spectacular. Jordan’s career in basketball is unrivaled.
After his three-peat, retirement and second three-peat, Jordan has proven that he is in fact the greatest basketball player to ever exist. His basketball style changed the game forever and those effects can be seen in how people play the game today. You can still see Jordan NBA jerseys amongst the Lebron’s and Bryant’s.
