Buffalo Bills + Terrell Owens = This Season’s X-Factor
When Terrell Owens showed up for the first day of training camp this summer he showed up bigger, faster, stronger and more determined than ever before. Even at 35 this wideout promises to be a full-season spectacle for all-comers. Acknowledging that there simply isn’t anyone else who’s completed 951 receptions, coach Dick Jauron realizes there’s no other player like him. With enormous hands practically made of glue, Terrell Owens gets this NFL season to show the Cowboys just how big a mistake they made.
Running all of his routes at top speed in pre-season practices, this season looks to be an exciting one for the Buffalo Bills not to mention the entire AFC East. The Buffalo Bills can now claim contender status, and they have the roster to back it up. Bills’ starting quarterback Trent Edwards was so pumped he was talking about playing all the way into February. That’s big talk for a team that hasn’t seen the play-offs since 1999.
But Coach Dick Jauron recognizes the reality of the situation and just what Terrell Owens does for the roster, and the franchise, “He creates issues for defenses because he is a big, strong, productive receiver. So you don’t go into a game just saying, ‘We’ll just play our base defense and take whatever happens.’ That’s not how you play against receivers like that. It gives us more opportunities.”
And opportunities are just what the Bills need for an all new season in addition to what promises to be an all-new ball-game.
Losman’s Opportunity Leads to the UFL
Former Buffalo Bills starting quarterback J.P. Losman makes a jump to the Las Vegas UFL franchise on a one-year contract. Joining one of the four teams set to start the 2009 sason it is of little surprise that he would consider the opportunity after losing the starting position during the 2007 NFL season.
“I have followed J.P.’s career since his early days with Buffalo, where he impressed me with his raw talent, passing accuracy and on-field competitiveness,” Las Vegas coach Jim Fassel said. “J.P. has all the attributes of a great professional quarterback, and I am truly looking forward to working with him.”
A tough decision to some degree for his once bright future he may just be the marquee player that the UFL has been looking to find and continue to mold the competitiveness of UFL play.
Life Running for Congress, a NFL Retiree
Buffalo Bills tight end Jay Riemersma has filed paperwork to run for U.S. Rep., a second District seat in southwestern Michigan taking the congressional seat of Peter Hoekstra after announcing his candidacy for governor in 2010.
First starting his soon to be professional career Riemersma began playing football at Zeeland High School, in Michigan.
Then moving on to study and play football at the University of Michigan he origionally played quarterback but switched to tight end for his last two seasons while twice earning Academic All-Big Ten Conference awards.
T.O. Invades Buffalo

The Bills welcomed T.O. to the Bills this week as the well known WR ran routes, caught a few passes from Trent Edwards, and remained serious despite the presence of about fifty reporters on the sidelines. It’s been quite some time since a talent like T.O. could be found in Buffalo, a team that hasn’t made the playoffs in nine seasons. The Bills have struggled to compete in their division, and T.O. might be just what the team needs to get back to playoff form. While T.O. was quite the personality in Dallas, in Buffalo he seems more reserved… for the moment. T.O. is known to take over the locker room and cause problems for teams like a cancer with his egocentric attitude. However, most would say Randy Moss was the same before he moved to the Patriots, and Moss’s image changed a lot after a few seasons with New England; T.O. could be the same with Buffalo.
T.O. joins Lee Evans at WR on the Bills, and now Trent Edwards has two viable weapons that will demand coverage in the backfield, providing him more throwing options. The Bills also have RB Marshawn Lynch, who will make balance out the Bills’ offense attack and ensure defenders remain honest. 2009 could be the year that Bills jerseys are worn in more places that Buffalo.
The AFC bEast
Is the AFC really shaping up to be the toughest division?
With the Patriots Tom Brady coming back stronger then ever along with a younger and healed defense. Barring any major calimities the Pats look to capitalize and reclaim a seat atop the AFC East.
The Jets making defensive chess moves and clinched the key role of quarterback with Sanchez. Will the soCal star live up to the hype against NFL opposition? All fingers seem to be pointing to him as the starting QB for the Jets. But fortunate for him the Jets have a slew of defensive cards to play with Bart Scott and Jim Leonhar’s renoun Ravens defense.
Returning off of a stunning turnaround from an 1-15 to a 11-5 team Bill Parcells look to perform again in 09.
And finally the Bills who have been making moves on both sides of the ball looking stampede their way through opponents. The Bills looked to capitalize on a talent move with T.O. on the Buffalo bandwagon along with QB Trent Edwards and RB Marshawn Lynch.
With what has and is happening accross the board for the NFL’s AFC East teams it feels all to easy to say, anything can happen ‘again’ in 2009. The bEast that is the AFC East teams have made some pivotal moves and this coming season will be a test of time for all as they battle their way to the top of not only the AFC but more importantly the NFL.
The Same Old Now Show for the TO Show
Some just have to have their hand held or forced to show face. Any team taking on such a player by now would know the situation they are getting themselves into, especially this far into Terrell Owens all for none career.
As Owens has so eloquently stated, “What I find so unfair is that I’m not the only guy out of 32 teams that didn’t show up, That’s what’s so frustrating about the whole thing.”
And to that affect and what was previously stated. Give it a rest. Acquired as a free agent last month the Buffalo Bills unquestionably knew what they were dealing with – Owens, “No worries,” attitude.
You can’t help but notice that he hates to be called out in this case, but loves the spotlight all the same. Enough said and moving on.
