NFL Hall of Famer – Troy Aikman
Aikman was the No. 1 overall pick in the 1989 NFL Draft, by the Dallas Cowboys. On February 25, 1989, new owner Jerry Jones fired Tom Landry, and replaced him with Jimmie Johnson. A few months later in the NFL’s supplemental draft, Johnson drafted Steve Walsh who played for Johnson at the University of Miami. Aikman won the starting quarterback job, and Walsh was traded early in the 1990 season.
Aikman’s NFL career started with a 28–0 loss to the New Orleans Saints. The following week, Aikman threw his first touchdown pass, a 65-yard completion to D’Shawn Jackson, but the Atlanta Falcons intercepted two passes and won. In a game against the Phoenix Cardinals he threw for 379 yards to set an NFL rookie record. He finished 1989 with an 0-11 record as a starter, completing 155 of 293 passes for 1,749 yards, 9 TDs, 18 INTs.
Following his rookie season, Dallas selected Florida Gators RB Emmitt Smith in the 1st round of the 1990 NFL Draft. With Emmitt Smith and WR Michael Irvin in consecutive drafts, Aikman nearly led the Cowboys to the playoffs in the 1990 season.
NFL Hall of Famer – Herb Adderley
Adderley was drafted by the Packers in the first round of the 1961 NFL Draft as the 12th draft pick. He began his professional career as a halfback, but was later switched to defense because the Packers already had good runners in Paul Hornung and Jim Taylor. He was first moved to cornerback to replace an injured teammate. In 1962 the move became permanent and Adderley went on to become an all-NFL selection five times in the 1960s. Packers coach Vince Lombardi remarked, “I was too stubborn to switch him to defense until I had to. Now when I think of what Adderley means to our defense, it scares me to think of how I almost mishandled him.”
Adderley seemed to be a natural at his new position, recording 39 interceptions in his nine seasons with the Packers. He holds the Green Bay Packers records for interceptions returned for touchdowns in a career (seven, record tied with Darren Sharper), and interceptions returned for touchdowns in one season (three, in 1965).
What Defines America’s Team
Mark Schlereth and James Hasty offer their take on the “America’s Team” debate.
To the credit of Bobby Ryan whom coined the Dallas Cowboys as ‘America’s Team’ from 1978 highlights videos it remains a debate as to which NFL team should actually be awarded the honor.
With continious playoff standings and key marketing the Cowboys have continued to boast the title and stay in America’s focus by partaking in Thanksgiving Day and continual Monday Night Football appearances.
No other team has more fans that identify with the Cowboys. With no other team can you travel to an away game and find so many fans in the apposing teams city. It was and has been a bandwagon since the Cowboys glory days.
No Pardon in Serving Your Time
With the unfortunate collapse of the Dallas Cowboys practice facility back on May 2nd injuring 12 people including permanently paralyzed Rich Behm, a Cowboys scouting assistant, the blame is being set.
As investigation of the reason behind the structure collapse relevant but unnecessary media coverage may be focusing all too much on a consultant accused of faking his education credentials whom also served federal prison time for drug trafficking.
These are interesting details being brought to light, and the credentials that awarded him the position which he was responsible are all relevant points that have come to light. Overall the amount of focus being placed on his incarceration should be an irrelevant fact unless a specific reasoning is behind the fact. An ex-con making his way in a legitimate profession with questionable credentials, who may have not had the necessary skills to oversee the project that failed to uphold. A valid point that would warrant fraud charges. On the other hand his past charges have no merit. We do believe in our rehabilitation process after all, right?
The NFL and NCAA has adopted adverse background checks including social media site’s but individual team development projects get a simple once over. There seems to be something to point out in that thought process. Afterall the players throw a football around and crack heads, the structures involve the safety of the safety of everyone involved. Focus on the important facts, as it would be hard to attest to an intentional part in the horrible incident.
2009: Dallas Cowboys Return to Fame?
Dallas fans have been miffed of late as the Cowboys haven’t quite been the same team in the last few seasons. While Dallas still has the talent to be a playoff or even Super Bowl team, the Cowboys have failed to show the teamwork needed to move past some of the better teams in the league. With names like Tony Romo, Roy Williams, and DeMarcus Ware in the lineup, the Cowboys have the offensive and defensive weapons to be a competitive and even dominant team in the NFL. But critics and fans speculate that what the Cowboys have been missing is unity amongst the team, and a QB who can lead.
Terrell Owens, or T.O. as he is more often known, was like a cancer in the locker room, and because he expected to catch the most passes all the games, it put QB Tony Romo in a tough spot. Keeping T.O. happy was often seen as more important than the team winning, and that’s the kind of attitude that doesn’t win games in the NFL. T.O. was shipped off to Buffalo in a trade, and the Cowboys managed to acquire a few receivers in the process. Now, Tony Romo will be a much more viable QB, and can perhaps provide the leadership the Cowboys need. Teamwork won the Steelers the Super Bowl in 2009, and time will tell whether Cowboys jerseys will be seen all around the Super Bowl stadium in 2010.
The Dallas Cowboys Fix

Stand up players do exist and they voice opinions that need to be addresses. What a great thing to experience! In a day of bending over and holding back your true feelings for the sake of being politically correct Terrell Davis shines.
“The first guy that’s got to go is T.O.,” said Terrell Davis when discussing his thoughts on hot to go about fixing the Dallas Cowboys.
Cancer is certainly a strong way of putting it but if the NFL is going to save face and be a stand up orgonization these types of subjects should be addressed. It wasn’t malicious and could be agreed by many who have worked with Terrell Owens It has been reflected in his career path, just never put so blatently.
