Hall of Fame Unbiased Eye

Baseball hall of fame election processAs the steroid-tainted era draws near to becoming Hall of Fame eligible where do we even begin to find resolution? For one the Baseball Writers Association of America would in essence have to throw out statistics accrued during their MLB career. Or should those only know to have tested positively for banned substances be left out of consideration?

The debate becomes harder as the scandal grows larger and all questions associated with the Hall of Fame induction are largely becoming tougher to solidify an answer.

Sam Donnellon reported on this issue and brought to light some interesting points about the current Hall of fame election process as it is and should be left in the hands of the Baseball Writers Association of America.

The players and coaches of ball clubs certainly could shed more light on the day to day dealings of a given candidate throughout their career as a player. But too much of the game is at stake when a player does well and catapults a team into nationwide spotlight. Managers and office personnel certainly have a tainted view.

The MLB Hall of Fame election process must agreeable remain in the eyes of an outside party. And such players should remain more then just the statistics they produced, as players add to the game and make the game a story behind the competition.

Vick’s Heinous Past One for ComparisonPerhaps condemned for his actions before he even had the opportunity to fight for the re-instatement of his NFL career Michael Vick now finds himself a free man without a sympathetic media eye.

The question is and will continue to remain whether or not he has paid his debt to society. President of PETA feels that a brain scan is necessary to determine whether, “he’s capable of remorse.” With 18 months in prison and two remaining under house arrest Michael Vick still has to show ‘true’ remorse.

With some of these proceeding it becomes clear that the message is, to simply do the time, start involving yourself in anti and awareness related activities.

Having paid his debt to society, Vick deserves to work. But does he deserve this work, an opportunity so many others would love to have?  NFL president Roger Goodell has said in a statement proceeding the likelyhood that Vick would petition to reenter the NFL.

Adrian Gilliam sold gun used to kill Steve McNairAlthough he may not have been directly involved in teh incident, it appears that a Tennessee man was arrested for selling the gun used to kill Steve McNair.

Now facing federal charges for being a felon in possession of a firearm, Adrian Gilliam admitted he sold Sahel Kazemi – the gun which she later used in the murder suicide that proceeded involving NFL quarterback Steve McNair. Already having been convicted of second-degree murder and attempted armed robbery in 1993 Gillam could not legally be in possession of a firearm.

“This is another example of what can happen with a gun when a felon is selling it on the street with little to no interest other than just selling it for 100 bucks,” said Nashville, Tennessee, Police Chief Ronal Serpas.

Jim Rice’s stance on steroidsJim Rice set to be inducted into the Cooperstown Major League Baseball Hall of Fame on July 26th, set the stage for steroid users in the Hall of Fame. Having been elected by the Baseball Writers Association of America to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in January Rice utilized a recent conference as a podium to voice a much needed change in the MLB.

“You can almost look at the same thing as Pete Rose,” Rice said on a conference call arranged by the Hall of Fame. “I think if they did something wrong to enhance the game of baseball or go against the game of baseball, they shouldn’t be in. That’s just me.”

Too many players, fans and members of the game of baseball view steroids as a direct form of cheating. A stand has to be made in avoidance of undermining the integrity of the game of baseball- and that stand seems to be Hall of Fame consideration.

President Obama kicked off the MLB All-Star game with more then just a simple pitch from the mound of Busch Stadium. It is obvious president Obama was there to make a statement about whom his favorite MLB team is, how grand.

Adorning a White Sox jacket Obama delivered a slick little throw right down the pipe. No-Drama Obama was all love on the field. Note the homeboy style handshaking.

Baltimore Ravens: NFL’s Toughest Team

While Joe Flacco had an amazing Rookie season with the Ravens, it was the Ravens rushing attack and their defense that gave them the title of the NFL’s toughest team. The Ravens offense doesn’t ever slow down behind RBs Le’Ron McClain and Willis McGahee, a rushing tandem almost as feared as Smash and Dash in Tennessee. These two hard nosed runners pounded opponents throughout the year, while Derrick Mason took the heat off the rushing attack with 1000 reception yards. But the Ravens are known more for their defense than their offense, and with a defensive line comprised of names like Ray Lewis and Terrell Suggs, with Ed Reed in the backfield, there isn’t a QB or team out there that walks over the Ravens with ease. With Joe Flacco blossoming as a QB, and with the addition of Michael Oher at OT, the Ravens look to take 2009 by storm.

Expect lots of Ravens jerseys in stadiums around the nation in 2009, as the team is near guaranteed to make a run at the playoffs and possibly the Super Bowl. Those who doubt the Ravens will find themselves knocked square on their rear.
