Griffey Humor and Hope for Seattle
It is a great thing to be able to come back to a long lost team and be able to fit in. Hometown hero and returning star of the Seattle Mariners Ken Griffy Jr. is back and joking with new and former teammates. Since signing a one-year contract for $2 million, plus incentives with the Seattle Mariners.
“I feel like I’m on a darn high school recruiting trip,” Griffey said as well as cracking on former Seattle teammate Jeff Nelson with his “Johnny Unitas haircut”. One thing any Seattle fan does not want to see, however, is the season get rushed upon the Mariner favorite and hope of a new start for the struggling team.
“It was bound to happen sooner or later,” Griffey said. He looked and added that he felt great. “Just doing what I’m supposed to. Take as many pitches, see pitches, get guys over, do the little things.” He certainly looks at home warming up during practice in the all too familiar blue pactice Seattle Mariners jersey.
But rookie manager Don Wakamatsu stated “We’re going to take it pretty slow,” and “Offensively, I think he looks great. … He says his timing is off.” It is great to see that Griffey is comfortable though and if his first day back with the team says anything about Griffey’s truimphant return.
