June 25th Major League Baseball’s Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations, Jimmie Lee Solomon, was honored with the 2009 Horizon Award by the foundation’s Joint Leadership Commission of the Congressional Award Foundation whom recognizing his leadership and exceptional example of success.

“We are very proud that Jimmie Lee’s career has been recognized with this award,” said Baseball Commissioner, Bud Selig. “His leadership has helped Major League Baseball make great strides in bringing baseball to undeserved youth across the country.” Which made Solomon the first MLB honoree.

The Solomon programs include MLB Urban Youth Academy, the Urban Invitational tournament, and the annual Civil Rights Game.

“I’m very humbled by this award, and I think that when an individual gets an award, it’s really a little unfair, because that award represents a lot of hard work from a lot of people,” Solomon said. “They shared in the commitment, and opened the doors on and off the field.”
