Undoubtedly the call by official Ed Hochuli had a deciding impact on the outcome of the Chargers – Broncos game. Even though it was decidedly determined a fumble an incomplete pass blown dead by referee whistle cannot be overruled. Even highly respected referees can be looked at with some criticism at the advent of a botched call and with the league’s competition committee, controversial calls can be looked at and reviewed at the end of the season. The tempo of football has slowed in recent years and other key aspects such as the rhythm of the game. This is not reality TV with all of the over dramatization and long pauses to build suspense. The suspense is in the game.
