jake plummer handballIt is rare to find something that truly brings back the passion and love you once had for a sport. For Jake Plummer former NFL quarterback for the Denver Broncos shocked fans when he retired in 2007. A decision that he made due to the constant diet of anti-inflammatories and aching back and knee injuries he sustained during his role as a superstar quarterback.

Now Jake finds solice in playing and promoting his long lost love for handball, a niche sport passed down to him by his father. His competative nature still comes out as he stives to improve his game, but now his determination is to improve is solely for personal aspiration.

Especially for the time being Jake is content with his new found passion for, “a lifelong sport where the athletes welcome you with open arms. That’s why I don’t miss football,” and continued on to say, “I want to play this until I’m dead, whenever that is. There aren’t many things you can say that about.”

Now living in Sandpoint Idaho his love for the outdoors and the families shared love for handball Jake has aspirations to take his First Annual Halloween Handball Bash and turn the tournament into “the Super Bowl of handball,” his wife Marilyn says. To that avail the inaugural hand ball tournament brought much success bringing eight of the worlds pro handball players and topping 95 co-ed competitors. Hoping to further establish the tournament as an annual tradition it is great to see a posative outcome to Jake’s life after the NFL.
