How Does John Madden Fit into the Equation?
More importantly perhaps, where is John Madden?
A class-action lawsuit filed in 2007 against EA and the Madden line of video games for previous versions of Madden that featured about 570 players without compensation. Not that Madden was aware of this or should be help accountable but the suit does include a number of players he has associated with throughout his career including a number of Oakland Raiders like Ken Stabler, Jim Otto, Dave Casper and Ben Davidson.
Some players have voiced their discust should Madden have been made or been aware of the situation that are a part of the pending suit but this is not a issue that directly relates to John Madden. Notably and ultimetly it is the responsibility of the late Gene Upshaw’s union and endorsments made through the NFL Players assosiation. At some point EA Sports is going to fit in the pitcure somehow with elegegid prehand knowledge of this issue. So was Madden just staying silent?
Players and press are hoping that Madden comes forward. “John Madden will stand up and do the right thing. I trust him as one of the great coaches in the league, and a great man. I firmly believe he will do what’s honorable”, stated Jack Youngblood, formerly coached by Madden and a part of the lawsuit.
Inevitably the integrity of his name and mark in football video games may be impacted but how much involvement would the poster boy have in the decision making of much larger entities both making the game and making decisions?
