Bill Cowher turns down jetsI have found hearsay circulating with regards to former Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher and his recent decision to decline the head-coaching job for the New York Jets starting next season. It has been made clear that Cowher never advanced past the preliminary stage of negotiations but since when can a ‘person’ close to Cowher pass off as headline worthy information?

Supposedly Cowher turned down the coaching position with the New York Jets because he doesn’t want to coach Brett Favre. Although there certainly could be justifiable reasons for this type of decision I am sure that more information would have come to fruition to that affect.

It has been confirmed by many sources that Cowher has removed his name from the possible succession to Eric Mangini. I certainly hope the former Pittsburgh Steelers coach shed some light on this.

ESPN did release information that made the Jets move make a lot of sense as he does have plans to at least return in 2010 unless the conditions are right. Apparently two of his daughters will be in the New York-New Jersey area and the New York market makes sense for this seasoned veteran. But unless the Jets had to stick with their interests in Brett Favre for reasons I am unaware I don’t see how the right coach would not be able to impose benching Brett.
