A Novel NFL Idea
Roger Goodell has proposed an expansion of the NFL’s regular season for 16 to 18 games by the 2011 season giving fans a much desired expansion on their beloved sport. But with this idea much debate has began, shedding controversial opinions about what this may truly mean.
One part of this proposal would shorten the number of preseason games as Goodell and others well know, “Fans don’t believe preseason games are up to our standards”. This only seems to be an idea long overdue with 20 percent of the cost of season tickets forced upon fans – games that don’t count – but Goodell seems willing to do something about it.
That makes two more reasons alone I can think of to sport my favorite teams NFL jersey. But lets not jump to the conclusion of a sound idea that may have merit. The fans would love it but many issues need still be addressed, let us proceed.
There is however the idea that longer season’s mean the possibility for more injuries. The NFL would never turn into a MLB type schedule length so I feel there is no honorable mention in taking the idea too far. NFL teams could just as easily spread more rotations into thier game plans should the NFL make a few key decisions to win the hearts of more fans, and their wallets.
Besides cutting down on a huge part of the season that has become a joke only seems like a better way to throw more mix into the schedules. So don’t continue to run your players into the ground, use your personnel, now there is a novelty idea. Who knows more players may be jumping at the chance to earn their spot.
NFL money crunch? More games, more competition, more airtime opportunity to be viewed by fans. Just a thought – Give the people what they want. I am certain the ratings would come, simple logic.
