2010: Cardinals Take the Super Bowl?
In 2009 the Arizona Cardinals, a team no one thought would see the playoffs let alone the Super Bowl, near won the title of Super Bowl Champions from the Pittsburgh Steelers. In the final weeks of the playoffs, the Cardinals played like a team that not only deserved to be in the Super Bowl, but to win it. However, the result was a four point loss that had little to do with a lack of ability from the Cardinals as a team, and more with a single error from veteran quarterback Kurt Warner. But as the season came to a close, NFL fans around the world had to admit that the Arizona Cardinals were for real. The Cardinal’s offense penetrated what was recognized as the best defense in the NFL, and their defense met Roethlisberger and stopped the Steelers from gaining momentum. While we’ll never know what would have happened had Kurt Warner not thrown that interception a mere toss from the goal line, had the Cardinal’s scored and the Steelers not intercepted, it might have been a much different picture at the end of the game. With Kurt Warner back for the new season, as well as Larry Fitzgerald, and the Cardinals near guaranteed a solid running back from the 2009 draft, this might be the year that the team goes all the way.
