Just when you were hoping that social media was going to take off you realize that your once all too personal life now requires an alias online. popular in many professional circles background checks may very well entail checking up on an applicants Facebook or other online profiles.

Not really a big deal for those who already know to use aliases so their girl can’t check up on all their sleazy free time activities. Apparently some just have to learn the hard way.

The NFL’s watchful eye

One question, where does it stop?

Social networking sites have reportedly been swept by NFL team personnel looking for embarrassing relations or other insight as to what they just might be getting into. With some of the antics that many players pull off during their stay with a team it surely is a wonder why they even care.

But one undisclosed source reported to Yahoo Sports that, “It works like magic,” and phony or ghost profiles are a backdoor into the personal information most widely used on prospects.

“Now, we can do a lot of it in a few days. We can sit down with 20 guys that we might be looking at, and have a pile of pictures and background things to hit them with. And every once in a while you come across something that probably saves you from making a big mistake. Not as much as you might think, but if it happens every couple years, it keeps you ahead of the game.”

The most shocking part is that this is supposedly much more widespread than you may think, including all aspects of current College Football recruiting. It may very well be adapted throughout every team. With countless hours of time spent combing through gathered online information major college programs have begun coaching athletes to the ways of social media sites, how to use them and even banning their use altogether.

What happens in real life, stays off line.
