Working to create a proposal for NFL team owners as soon as next month, Roger Goodell, has been looking to substitute two preseason games for games that would be a part of the regular schedule. This would not change much by the way of games that were a part of the overall season but did include pushing back Super Bowl weekend.

“You are taking the quality and improving it, taking two meaningless games and making them meaningful within the 20-game framework.”

“I think there are a lot of positives and opportunities to it, but there are some cautionary things,” Goodell said, many teams and players had raised the issue of health and safety with a prolonged regular season.

Although there is coverage during the current preseason games there are still negotiations that would have to be made with television and other media formats that have set interest as well. The proposed outline looks to address all of these issues I assume.

“We have not found a saturation point for pro football, which is a good thing. I don’t want to be around if we do.”

These negotiations equal league revenue which leaves NLF players wanting a piece of that additional percentage. Players are well aware of how league money breaks down and what this could mean to the league, teams and players.

Goodell has to recognize everything involved and it looks to be a long awaited process starting with a two-month series of meetings with players on every team which goes against the aforementioned proposal for a regular season extension. All off which seems to be a part of many more changes Goodell feels should be implemented, including a rookie wage scale.

“At the end of the day, teams make decisions about what is good for them,” Smith said. “No division has been made between our players and the rookies, our veterans and the rookies.”
