San Diego Chargers stadium proposalThe Chargers on Thursday rejected a developer’s proposal to build a $1 billion stadium as part of a redevelopment of the land surrounding Qualcomm Stadium, saying the project would be too enormous for the Mission Valley site.

The Chargers feel they need a new stadium to remain financially competitive with other NFL teams but they did not feel the developers proposal had any realistic chance which called for a name of The River Park at Mission Valley, would include a 70,000-seat stadium, 3.76 million square feet of office space in 11 buildings, a 16-story hotel, nearly 6,000 residential units, 500,000 square feet of retail space and 14,000 parking spaces.

The projected stated to be  “fantastical,” with “mythical skyscrapers, mythical prices and a mythical stadium.”  It has just been viewed as one with zero chance of actually happening due to the scale and the San Diego Chargers are hoping to use a similar but smaller development with public land as a way to build a stadium.
