Foretelling NFL Successes in 2009

There are a number of NFL teams that had disappointing seasons in 2008, and while nothing in the NFL is certain until the season begins, there are a number of teams that are sure to look much better in ’09. The Seattle Seahawks were riddled with injuries in 2008, and some of their most important team assets sitting out for most of the season. QB Matt Hasselbeck, who lead the Seahawks to the Super Bowl a few seasons back, injured his lower back and sat out for much of the season. On defense, Patrick Kerney, one of the Seahawks leading tacklers, sat out for much of the season, and the Seahawks receiving corps, including names like Nate Burleson, Deon Grant, and Bobby Engram, were injured throughout the season making the fourth and fifth string WRs the starters. The Seahawks come into 2009 with some big additions to their defense, including first round pick Aaron Curry (quite possibly the most talented player available in the 2009 draft), as well as the return of Patrick Kerney. The Seahawks have also bolstered their offense with the addition of T.J. Houshmandzadeh, regarded as one of the better receivers in the NFL, and a new go-to target for Hasselbeck.

The Seahawks are poised to make a playoff run in 2009, but will still have a lot more competition in the division as the Cardinals are now a competitor. Fans will be displaying their Seahawks NFL jerseys with pride in ’09 as defenses and offenses around the league will be providing the team a bit more respect with all their starters healthy.
