former Steelers Jay Riemersma filing for congress seatBuffalo Bills tight end Jay Riemersma has filed paperwork to run for U.S. Rep., a second District seat in southwestern Michigan taking the congressional seat of Peter Hoekstra after announcing his candidacy for governor in 2010.

 

First starting his soon to be professional career Riemersma began playing football at Zeeland High School, in Michigan.

 

Then moving on to study and play football at the University of Michigan he origionally played quarterback but switched to tight end for his last two seasons while twice earning Academic All-Big Ten Conference awards.

 

Riemersma graduated from U of M in 1996 and was drafted by the Buffalo Bills as the 35th pick of the 7th round in the 1996 NFL draft. with the Buffalo Bills from 1996 to 2002 and two years with the Pittsburgh Steelers 2003–2004 before retiring in 2004 after tearing his achilles tendon.

 

Since then he has expanded his career to including regional direcor for the Family Research Council working alongside policy experts, grassroots activists and conservative leaders. Now he looks to further his influence and reach by representing the people of Michigan in a congressional seat.
