Matt Millen Steps back into broadcastingBelated coverage but one worth noting, Matt Millen talks a good game when it comes to pro football.

Fired three weeks into the Lions winless 2008 season Millen emerged with a plethora of obligations including ESPN college football and NFL coverage including appeearances on Monday Night Countdown and NFL Live. Although he does not have an impressive resume as a head coach, he certainly has had an impressive resume in previous years as a broadcaster.

During his stead with the Lions Millen went 31-84, an NFL worst eught year record. Although to his credibiliy may remain as the franchise continued onto0-16 record even after his dismissal, the first worst record in the history of the league.

“I understand. In Detroit, they need a bad guy. I was a bad guy,’’ Millen said. “I was to blame for the fall of the auto industry and the housing market. But that’s what happens when you lose in this game. You give everyone a cheap and easy story to jump on.’’

Millen however felt that his struggles would make him a better broadcaster. What might very well be a second act for his longstanding NFL tenure.

“In our league, you’re only judged on wins and losses. So tenure was not good, it was very poor,’’ he said. “So it’s been said that you learn a lot from failures, and I learned a ton. So I can bring that to the table. I think I view my experience in Detroit as a positive just in terms of, not in terms of winning and losing, obviously, but having gone through it and having been exposed to every level of the National Football League. Yeah, I think that’s something that could help with the telecast.’’
