A Definite Perplexing Era in Sports

Roger ClemensAs I have begun formulating more and more information pertaining to the history of sports it is certainly made me consider what the future will be looking back upon during these years in sports. There were certainly a fair share of scandals in MLB’s past but there just seems to be an over obsession with uncovering dirt, and overall players cannot seem to stay out of the infamous spotlight.

Viagra, a seemingly irrelevant ‘enhancement drug’ solely intended for hitting home runs…off the field is now the target for ban from the MLB with the discovery of its use initially by New York Yankees own, Roger Clemens. The supposed ‘Vitamin V’, which is not officially banned by Major League Baseball or other sports but with the uncovering of its widespread use it is being researched for its performance enhancing affects by three US universities, specifically referred to as sildenafil citrate.

Where will players, regulations, and all the commotion stop? Baseball cannot ever be quite the same, and talk of performance enhancers will certainly bring a comical topic to any discussion. With the advent of an erectile dysfunction medication, its intended use and recent implications in its intended performance-enhancing uses such as building endurance and offsetting the impotence causing side-effect of testosterone injections (the drugs intended use), where will the line be drawn in the future. And is the MLB overstepping that line by banning something being used for its intended use? Pretty soon players may be finding themselves unable to play longer innings.
