Owen Schmitt Off Course
Saturday night, June 25th Owen Schmitt of the Seattle Seahawks was arrested in Black Diamond of Pierce County Washington on suspicion of DUI after he was seen weaving and following too close with a BAC measuring 0.151 and 0.161, according to records from the Washington State Patrol.
Scheduled to be arraigned on July 8th, Schmitt released a written statement regarding the incident.
“I sincerely apologize to the team, the NFL, the fans and my family and friends for my actions and my poor judgment,” the statement said. “I fully understand the seriousness of this matter, and I am disappointed in myself. I am committed to earning back the trust of everyone affected.”
Last season Schmitt saw just 5 carries for 21 yards as a rookie fifth round pick out of West Virgina but is expected to take over as the starting full back this coming season. Meanwhile the Seahawks have already signed veteran free agent Justin Griffith to give Schmitt a run for his money.
Schmitt could possibly be subject to discipline from the NFL under the players’ substance-abuse policy, althought first time offenses are not usually subject to suspension.
