Roger Goodell 12th Man Climb
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell tackles his most “,physical, emotional and probably mental,” challenge yet in his ‘Climb for the Community’.
“It was a battle, a constant battle,” but one he pressed on along with his eight-member charity expedition that included Seattle Seahawks Coach Jim Mora and Chief Executive Tod Leiweke, all of whom raised more than $300,000 for the United Way of King County.
“In the first hour, I was really wondering whether I was going to make it, because we were just coming into the hard part.”
In order to train for the event NFL Commissioner Goodell, pushing 50, had been training in the staircases of NewYork skyscrappers by lugging along weights.
“It was a lot more challenging than I thought, both physically and mentally,” Goodell said. “You really have to be prepared for this, and it really tests your will.”
“It tested my will quite a few times.”
“You realize why he’s doing what he’s doing, why he got where he got,” Mora said. “Really, it gives me even greater conviction that he’s the guy you want running the league. The owners made the right choice.” “That’s the kind of guy I want to be roped to.”
Even looking back at the whole ordeal Goodell remembers the point in which all of his NFL experiences came down to the point, “when you look down and literally you can’t see the bottom and they ask you to step over. You say, ‘Well, I don’t know about this.’ That was scary,” Goodell said.
