Bob Knight Headed to College Basketball Hall of Fame
Long-time head coach of the men’s basketball programs at Indiana University and Texas Tech University, Bob Knight will be inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame along with seven others in the 2011 class. Knight is best known for the 31 years he spent coaching at Indiana University where his volatile temper was often on display.
After being dismissed from IU, Knight was hired as the head coach of the Texas Tech University basketball team, where he greatly improved their record. Coach Knight has the most career wins in history at 902 with a .708 winning percentage. Fans of Knight should consider purchasing custom college jerseys with Knight’s name emblazoned across the back. It would be a tremendous show of support for Knight who has battled a lot of controversy, even in his retirement.
The Sports Purity Test
For as long as spectators have been enjoying sports, there has been an ongoing debate as to which stratum reigns supreme: collegiate athletics or the pros. Proponents of collegiate athletics will assert that the games at the college level are more pure; athletes don’t “play for the money” and there isn’t the rampant gambling that is experienced at the pro level—for the most part. In today’s day-in-age, however, many of these claims don’t hold water.
Many college athletes simply treat the NCAA as the “minor leagues,” biding their time until they are eligible for the pros. Even when athletes stay for their full tenure, it is often only long enough for the most devout fans to learn their name. This is why you so often see collegiate fans donning personalized college jerseys instead of the name and number of the favorite player.
