Lane Kiffin Looking for the Answer
Ah, college football in Los Angeles.
Glamorous, high-profile and full of recrimination …
USC is 2-0, and no one is satisfied.
UCLA is 0-2, and no one is satisfied.
Good times.
The Trojans won Saturday night, but it was not a resounding victory. It was a lukewarm 17-14 victory over Virginia at the Coliseum. A week after the defense was blistered for giving up 36 points and 588 yards to Hawaii, it was the offense’s turn to hand-wring following a less-than-stellar performance in front of the home fans.
And coach Lane Kiffin looks for answers while he continues to offer up reasons why the Trojans aren’t yet a well-oiled machine. Read More >>
Richard Brehaut Turn at the Helm as the Bruins Quarterback
UCLA was embarrassed Saturday night by Stanford, 35-0. The Bruins turned the ball over four times and the passing attack was brutal under sophomore signal-caller Kevin Prince. He connected on six of 12 passes for just 39 yards, threw a pick and botched a handoff — the last act prompting head coach Rick Neuheisel to yank him from the game.
But that wasn’t enough for Prince to lose his job.
In fact, he apparently did something right.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Neuheisel named Prince the Bruins starter for this weekend’s contest against Houston after reviewing the game film. The coach had initially said he’d wait to name a starter until after practice this week, but the film review changed his mind.
Richard Brehaut, who replaced Prince, completed five of nine passes for 42 yards, though he also threw an interception.
It’s pretty likely Neuheisel is choosing the lesser of two evils here, and it’s also likely to be a long season in Pasadena.
